Young Artist of the Year prize for Francesca Markot

Congratulations are in line for art student Francesca Markot, who came an outstanding second in a national competition to find 'Young Artist of the Year' for the Clothes Show Live 2009.

Francesca submitted a poster design, celebrating the significance and history of The Clothes Show with the hope of promoting the event amongst schools in 2010. She was one of ten finalists shortlisted out of 1500 entries, invited to attend the award ceremony at the NEC in Birmingham. All winning entrants were directed to walk along the catwalk, parading their design printed on A1 sheets in front of a panel consisting mainly of professional advertisers, who judged work on its marketing potential.

The Art Department and School would like to commend Frankie on her notable achievement.

Art galleries on school website

Three new Art galleries have now been created on the school website, celebrating the work of Northgate art students across the age range. Split into three key stages, they showcase a range of 2D and 3D outcomes, including painting, printing, sculpture, textiles and lens-based responses. Follow these links to view: Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and A Level.

These will be updated reguarly so keep a watchful eye out for your work.

Art residency inspires others

It was great to hear that Jevan's work has inspired an art project at another school, Gisleham Middle, following the presentation at the Head of Art Teachers' Conference in December.
Paul Cope, art teacher at GMS has written about the project he initiated with his pupils. You can read the blog, and view the work at http://paulcope.wordpress.com/.
